Prime Minister announces additional support for businesses

COVID-19 Impact Survey for Kitimat

April 27th

April 21

The federal government will begin to accept applications for the wage subsidy Monday (April 27), as it rolled out a calculator for businesses to calculate how much they could receive.

The $73-billion wage subsidy will provide businesses with 75 per cent of each employee’s salary, up to $847 each week. It is available for businesses who have lost 15 per cent of gross revenue in March, and 30 per cent in the months following. The subsidy will be backdated to March 15 and is currently set to run for 12 weeks.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday (April 21) that companies using tax havens will still be eligible for the wage subsidy, as the money goes to payroll and workers.

March 26 -Video Message Update from CMSD82 Acting Superintendent of Schools

There are many questions about what will happen on Monday, March 30 for CMSD82 staff, students and families in the wake of the news that in-classroom instruction has been suspended until further notice.

Coast Mountains School District 82 is committed to regular communication with families and students, and with staff in the school district during this unprecedented situation and we ask for everyone’s patience as the school district prepares our continuity of learning plan.  Schools remain closed to the public as school staff make plans to address the learning needs of students.

Our CMSD82 Team is working with the Ministry of Education as we put together a continuity of learning plan for our school district.  We have some answers for you today, but we will have more tomorrow, and more in coming days.

To that end, we share a video communication from Janet Meyer, Acting Superintendent of Schools that provides an update on the school district plans while providing reassurance that we have a confident CMSD82 Team able to manage this crisis, ensuring the safety and well-being of our staff, students and families is always at the forefront.

District of Kitimat

Business Facade Improvement Program >>>

The District of Kitimat, in collaboration with the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce, aims to enhance economic development by encouraging private sector investment in façade improvements for existing businesses.  This follow other initiatives to help existing Kitimat businesses make improvements, including the Revitalization Tax Exemption program for commercial properties.

The availability of façade improvements grants comes at an excellent time for the community, which is experiencing a period of renewal as a result of industrial development.

The District of Kitimat is receiving funding through Northern Development Initiative Trust’s Business Façade Improvement Program, which aims to enhance economic development by encouraging existing businesses to make upgrades to their building’s exterior. Applications are accepted on an outgoing basis and are reviewed on a first come, first serve basis until the annual budget of the program has been allocated.

Projects that qualify for funding would receive a reimbursement of 50 per cent of eligible coasts, up to a maximum of $5,000.
